Nottingham City Council wanted an internal training video that would help their staff talk to residents about something that’s not always easy to bring up – money struggles.
The idea was to show how these “brief interventions” could make a big difference, and to give staff the tools and confidence to have those conversations. Because we’ve got loads of experience filming sensitive topics, and a proper knack for capturing real, authentic stories, they asked us to bring the whole thing to life.
We got stuck in with the Public Health team and planned out a video that mixed straight-to-camera interviews with realistic roleplay scenes.
All the filming took place in one day across various Nottingham. We worked with brilliant Nottingham-based actors to make sure the dramatised scenes felt natural, not cheesy. The video came together in our usual documentary style, with no fluff or fuss – just proper storytelling that packs a punch.
The final video is being used to support Nottingham City Council’s ‘Brief Interventions’ training, helping staff feel confident, prepared and ready to help residents in need. Steve Thorne said: “Boxset Media created a fantastic video for us. They were extremely collaborative and guided us through the whole process step-by-step. Everyone in the team was friendly, professional and easy to work with. We’re delighted with the finished result. Thank you.” And we’re well chuffed too – it’s always a win when a video can genuinely make a difference.
