Lifeways Community Care is one of the UK’s leading providers of care and support to people with learning disabilities and other complex needs. We were approached by Lifeways to produce a fire health and safety training video production that would be accessible, relevant and interesting to both support workers and individuals being supported.
Our solution was to produce a friendly presenter led training video, carefully scripted in collaboration with West Midlands Fire Service.
Boxset Media also worked closely with actors from a disability theatre group who played the role of Lifeways service users and support workers.
Shot over only a few days, we knew that a fast turnaround was key for this training video and keeping the job on time and on budget was vital. Therefore we cast a wonderful presenter who delivered all of her lines first time in just a matter of hours! We also had access to Safeside – an indoor health and safety learning centre that features a street, many houses, a pub a shop and even a double decker bus, allowing us to tick off several locations by only walking a few paces!
The training video won the Learning and Training award at the 2012 National Association for Safety and Health in Care Services Awards. The training video production was highly commended by the judges as an innovative approach to fire safety with special praise given to the quality of the performances in the DVD, which resulted in realistic training scenarios that many viewers would associate with.
